Stuttering woes

I've been on the "hit and miss" trail for the last couple of months, trying to track down the cause of intermittent, momentary cut-out on hard(er) acceleration, combined with an occasional stumbling, searching low idle. In going after these symptoms, I have replaced (in listed groups) the following:
- all vacuum hoses underneath the hood;
- the spark plugs;
- cleaned the AIC;
- both pullies, serpentine belt, and tensioner (used to have an occasional whiff of burnt rubber - ceased after this job);
- the hooter valve (with the updated 3.0 bar version from eEuroparts). This helped, but the symptom still rears its ugly head (to a lesser degree) when I get on the throttle.
At this point, I feel like I'm sort of shooting willy-nilly. Plugged fuel filter, fuel pump starting to die, fuel pressue regulator, intake tract leak, curse of God? Any and all observations most welcome.
