93 turbo oil pump access

I did the crankshaft seal yesterday, and I had an oil pump o-ring standing by, but when I got in there I saw a completely different picture than the simple thing the Hayne's manual showed. There were 10-12 bolts of different sizes and some sensor attached with a few torx screw. I was running out of daylight and chickened out of pulling it. I'm probably going back in soon, as I now think that it is the fixed idler pulley that has been whining ever louder for the past month or two. Is this the access to the oil pump - through all those bolts and elaborate face plate? Or am in the wrong place for my motor (2.3L turbo)? It's been leaking obscene quantities of oil.
