Whenever I hear hesitation and a disconnect between the right foot and engine response, I think AMM.
And as to spark plugs - how do they look? Running rich or lean? How's the gap?
In general, DI faults either show up as a misfire, or no fire at all. Spark plug issues usually start as misfire under boost, but can also lead to poor performance. But the plugs live in the engine, and tell quite a story.
As Ron implies, there is a lot more possibly going on here. I think the DI is in the clear. But fuel delivery and air measurement is suspect. It could be AMM, bad FPR, any number of vacuum leaks, etc.
