Unless Rob's, Yaofeng's and my 1994 rear brakes are different (doubtful), there is some confusion here.

1. The two black plastic plug covers shield the brake pad guide/retaining pins, which have a hexagonal socket head - they are basically long stainless steel screws with thread only at the tip. These are not part of the ebrake mechanism and should not be loosened or adjusted, except for replacing pads. There is a stated torque value for proper tightening (don't have the value at hand). Do not leave these loose, please tighten them back up, your rear brakes will not work properly if they fall out.

2. The caliper retractor and ebrake adjuster screw are one and the same - you retract the caliper piston by turning it one way, replace the pads, then turn it the other way to extend the pads until they touch the rotor, then back it off a bit (by retracting again). This screw is located in the bore under a brass hex-shaped cap on the inner side of the caliper; once the cap is off, there is a small hex-socket screw (4mm?) to move the caliper's piston in and out. This cap is brass on my car, has a copper washer between it and the body of the caliper.

3. The parking brake mechanism is "self-adjusting". This means that, as Yaofeng does, you may be able to leave a properly functioning mechanism alone and it will automatically adjust to the proper setting in a few days. I have never tried this, nor do I have any intention of doing so.

My alerting you to the whole caliper retraction issue is that I have a feeling that someone may have previously used a C-clamp to retract your pistons and destroyed the retraction/adjustng mechanism. I have never had to adjust the parking brake cable on the SAABs that I have owned, including my 22-year old C900 (front ebrakes!). There is a bit of stretch inherent in the cables that probably covers some range of adjustment.

When I had a broken adjusting mechanism, I could extend the caliper piston, retract it a bit, pull the ebrake lever and then had no ebrake. Note that rebuilt calipers are only about $60 each net after core refund.
