Thanks for all of the explanation. It defintely cleared things up. I just finished doing the brakes and I only had one problem... The 4mm hex bolt that retracts the piston would almost but not completely come out far enough to replace the pads. There is a little piece of wire in the shape of a C in each of the holes that the hex bolt lives in. I would back out the hex bolt and it would hit the wire clip and that stopped the bolt from moving anymore.
I managed to fit a new pad in on each side, which is not the greatest thing to do. The old pads were only about half worn, Ill go back later and do it right. Its just weird that those little clips are in there that stop the hex nut from coming out more.
Anyway, I turned the hex bolts in and the e-brake works great now. Thanks for the help, it is much appreciated.
