The petrol in the tank is no bigger problem than usual. A home made tool to unscrew the ring needs to be a good fit because it is in there tight and then giggling it out is easy just be patient. By far the biggest problem is removing the 90 degree fittings that connect the pipes as they can be very weak and are easy to break if a straight pull is not applied. To do this you need to make the decision that you are going to replace the $500.00 plus cage with a new one then you can go ahead and break off the ears that hold the elbows with their o-rings in place so as you can apply all your effort to the straight pull. It's a great feeling to get them out intact. A spray of WD 40 will lubricate the rings as they come out.
Good luck.
