ari, first and foremost you are truly a blessing to saabnet.
i can't begin to thank you enough for all of the time and effort you have put in to helping a complete stranger. I am sure there is a special place in heaven for people like you.
further, when i was toldy by the indy that i needed a new fuel control module, my first reaction was agreement, however i told the indy that i would be able to procur a rebuilt module from eeuroparts, for approximately, 350 dollars. He balked at my opinion, and said that he would not install a non dealer part as he could not vouch for its quality.
i was dissapointed by his reaction, and told him over the phone that i appreciated his help, but that i would find an indy who would not have the same concerns. later that day, i went back the the indy shop to pick up my car and was presented with a diagnostic bill for 211 dollars.
i felt as though he was trying to take advantage of me, and balked at the bill. i highly doubt he spent two and a half hours finding codes with his saab scan tool, and i couldnt understand why he would want to charge me over 200 in diagnostic, when he told me that the whole repair would be 1100 including the computer which was 900. i tried to explain to the indy, that i should have been informed of the cost beforehand, and that in my experience even a saab dealer has a limit of 75 dollars for diagnostic.
in any case he became beligerent, and outright insulted me using profanity,
to make a long story short, i cut into him, and he backed down and apologized, and accepted the 75 dollars.
i was even more perturbed, because on the diagnostic report that he gave me, he goes on to say, that other things might be wrong but that he wont know what they are until he replaces the fuel control module. so needless to say, i dont believe he is neither honest nor trustworthy, and am not going back to him. If you agree with my judgemnent, pls let me know, and i will see if i can post a warning on saabnet for our other members.
as u suspected he did not check the fule pressure. and in his report he doesnt say anything about checking the iac either.
i so wish u lived in arizona, so i could invite u over, and bribe u with cases and cases of beer, but alas that is not the case, so what do i do?
do i take it to another indy, if so to whom? shold i try a dealer?
today i will reset the fuel control module, check the ground for the oxygen sensor, and check for vaccum leaks. i will wait to see where you point me to.
fyi, small stuff, like brakes, oil changes, i can do confidently, but some of this stuff is out of my league. i found on quasimotor a step by step guide for checing the iac, but it is more than i can confidnetly get into. so i am leaning towards either a dealer of an indy.
ari once again thank you very much for your help and your continued contribution to saabnet. it is people like you that makes life for the rest of us that much better.
happy easter.
