...I'm ashamed to admit that I have, on occassion, patronized them and bought MobilOne while on sale (5 qts for $19.99). However, with higher output turbo engines, it's more than a good idea to stay away from a 30W oil. With the higher mechanical and thermal stresses of an Aero engine (B234R) the 30W viscosity will be significantly reduced in very little time (I've witnessed it in various used oil analyses on BITOG). Even a 15W-50W oil used in my tuned Aero dropped down to a lower 40 weight after 6700 miles. This probably isn't that great an issue on a LPT, but I'll bet even Rob's FPT/CSE is much harder on an oils' viscosity, over time, than a lot of Chevy LT1's or LT6's found in Corvettes. It's important that the oil squirters on the undersides of B234 turbos' pistons function at low-rpm, high load situations - I have my doubts whether a lower viscosity oil would suffice in those conditions, which are probably rare, but something to consider. For a while, I also used a 5W-30 synthetic in my B234R. I would always have to add make-up oil between changes - with 15W-50, I've never had to do this. Regardless of ambient conditions (I wouldn't start an engine with 15W-50 below 20º), B234R's are probably one of the more brutal conditions an oil can be subjected to!
