JT installed!-removed IC pipe, and other details Posted by huey [Email] (#1023) [Profile/Gallery] (more from huey) on Mon, 2 May 2005 08:22:39 In Reply to: Re: New 3" downpipe & trouble with studs-help!, Larry Maxwell, Fri, 29 Apr 2005 13:59:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Thanks for the reply, the 'epiphany' for me was removing the turbo to intercooler pipe in order to get the clearance for a socket on the stud nuts. I was able to reuse the studs, hope they hold. One didn't seem to go in as far as the others, but I think I got them pretty snug. For the piping I used 14" of 2-1/2" EMT (galvanized electrical tubing)which has an OD of about 2-7/8"-close enough to weld after cutting 1" slots in the cat to match the slots in the adapter, to go between the CAT and the adapter supplied with the JT exhaust. Had a friend at a fab/weld shop TIG weld it with stainless rod. I mentioned that there was three different materials 1)stainless cat 2) galvanized pipe and 3) steel adapter, but he didn't even care. The stainless rod material held everything great. I also used Joe98's trick of using stainless steel band clamps to reinforce the rubber hangers-one had already been broken for some time, so I didn't want the new, heavier pipe to move AT ALL. Seems to be great, noticeably faster spool up in the seat of the pants, and all around better low to mid range response. I have to say, that is is a tight fit, though-looks like less than 1/2" on the bend under the oil pan! Thanks for all your help! HUEY
