...misfiring really fast. I thought about babying it all the way home but that would be 450kms through the mountains. I tried a few lame options to get the part cheaper but having to leave the next day with a wife and 6 month old baby sealed my fate. When I finally decided to stick with the Saturn shop and pay their outrageous "dealer" price, the guy politely told me he wanted to keep the car overnight, so I wouldn't be tempted to drive it anymore, because they had another 9000 in there with a BLOWN PISTON...because it was misfiring and the owner decided to continue driving it. I took this as a sign...
As for the A/C, I searched the board and there actually were several postings that pointed to the DI as the root of the problem for others that had basically the exact symptoms I did. Who woulda thunk it! I would love to hear a technical explanation as to why, but the A/C works fine now.
Cheers!
