Dim EDU Fixed! Replaced Phototransistor Posted by TimC [Email] (#3216) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TimC) on Wed, 11 May 2005 19:29:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Just posting this info along after reading the posts on fixing a dim EDU by replacing the phototransistor. I carefully pried out the clock (computer) from the dash. There are clips on the top and bottom of the clock. If you are careful you won’t muck up the dash. Carefully disassembled the clock and unsoldered and replaced the phototransistor. The part I used was an NTE3037. You can get it at http://www.mouser.com or search for a distributor at the NTE website: http://www.nteinc.com.
The NTE3037 had a slightly different case than the original, and a clear lens instead of a red filter like the original. It fit right in and no modifications to the light pipe were necessary. It works well, I can now see the EDU fine during the day and it’s not too bright at night. Hopefully this helps someone with the same problem. I wasn’t able to find the Radio Shack parts mentioned in other posts.
Tim
P.S. the car is 1998 CSE
