Boost level with cruise

I fitted cruise control to my '97 the other day and it was completely plug-and-play, once I'd worked out that they'd changed the operating cable design some time between 1995 and 1997 and I was trying to fit the wrong one. One question, though - I'd always understood that when operating on cruise, you were restricted to base boost. This was the case on my '93 car with the old vacuum system.
But on this later system, if I slow down then press "Resume" to let cruise control accelerate me back up to speed, I'm getting boost right to the start of the stripy section on the gauge. I haven't checked where base boost is on the gauge of this "new" car but I'm pretty sure it won't be up there. Anybody able to enlighten me as to what's happening?
Mind you, it's nice, and it gets you back up to cruising speed really fast.
