they seem to be chronically optimistic. I always calculate after filling the tank and checking the trip mileage vs. gallons filled.
Though I have a full set of data from all my past fills, they combine local and highway driving, which isn't what you're after. I'd have to take a long trip somewhere to get a good number on that-
My combined MPG is in the realm of 21 MPG for my 93 manual, NA, with my 93 automatic getting more, in the 24 MPG range.
