Ok, so I was driving along heading to a movie tonight in my '91 9kt...I downshift to fourth to take the corner and I give 'er some boost, then I hear this clunk, almost like I hit something in the road, but there was nothing there...then the car started jerking with the engine speed. I pushed the clutch in to downshift for the next corner and the idle keeps flaring from 1200 - 2300 or so very rapdily...I put the car into second, and it made the whole car jerk as if I was stomping on the gas pedal over and over again.
What could this be? It must be something turbo related, because I have always had a vacuum pressure at idle and now the gauge shows atmospheric pressure, and the "hooting" sound happens much much earlier when accelerating, also, car seems to have little or no boost. I'm stumped...wastegate?
Another problem I've been having is I've noticed some oil seepage from the head gasket area...there is no coolant in my oil, but is this a sign of head gasket failure anyways? Or would overboosting cause this problem? I've noticed on posts here that people say that boost should go into the red...but my boost gauge goes way the hell past the red.
Thanks in advance for your help!
