95 Aero ETS Module issue? Electronic Throttle System

Hi,
1995 9000 Aero 5 speed, 175k, newer throttle body, has TCS, but no issues with it.
My A/c is out all of the sudden. Compressor is fine. New heater core and blower motor. My great local mechanic found a fault with the ETS module - electronic throttle sensor under the driver seat that is preventing the a/c clutch from being grounded, therefore no a/c. Faulty diode. Did a quick workaround by grounding one of the wires near the a/c relay (red/green striped one near the round connector) which has allowed me to use the A/C, but it is in 'always on' mode. No big deal this time of year.
Do I need a new ETS module? Can I fix the existing one? Hard to find part, almost $1,000 new, little or no info about this under the driver seat component.
Anyone familiar with this issue? Seems to be extremely rare.
