Vacuum leak? Bad tank of gas? Posted by Bill Homer [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: light knocking when hot, Tiziano, Thu, 7 Jul 2005 05:30:52 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Recently, my car was knocking at low speeds when I would accelerate even moderately. A new tank of premium gasoline fixed my knocking problem, car now runs great. Heat will increase knocking, which is caused by preignition of the mixture, triggered by a hot spot - did you clean the carbon off of the head while it was out?
The problems at startup may be due to a vacuum leak or the previously mentioned bad gasoline. If you are not seeing smoke, the 10W-40 oil is probably fine. Check all hose connections for coolant leaks.
Yes, it's very possible to get a bad tank of gasoline - water can get into the gasoline retailer's storage tanks (either accidentally or on purpose!), which does not help the octane rating.
