The fact that your problem got better with some new gasoline is encouraging. Unless you completely drained out the old gas, which I assumed you didn't, there is still some of the previous tank of gas mixed in with the new one. Give it another try, it may take more than one tank.
Unless you are burning a lot of oil at startup, I would not think that valve guide seals are contributing to the knocking problem; I would not be anxious to take apart the engine again. By the way, the seals are made by a company called Elring and should be available from other sources than a SAAB dealer. Eeuroparts.com, a saabnet sponsor, sells them for $0.75 each.
