I vote CV joint, but I agree its curious that you have no clicks or clunks.

My 93 CSE has what I am now convinced to be a pair of failing CV joints. The right (passenger side) clicks and clunks on takeoff from first gear. The left CRUNCHES and GROANS when I go over a speed bump with the wheel turned to the left, but is quiet for straight ahead or right hand turns. All suspension parts are fine (most are new), car handles bumps as it should. I do get a vibration under braking, but this is not a bent rotor or failed calipers (which I changed in an effort to eliminate the vibes). A failing CV joint could cause this too, I think.

The car has a long history of CV boots being torn. Each time I replaced the boots as soon as I noticed the problem. Each time I cleaned and re-greased the CV, and at no time did I see any damage. But then again, here I am with failing CV joints. Can't complain though, 225,000 miles and still going.

BTW, the turbo does not go to full boost, a recent development. I have seen past posts suggesting that the knock sensor can detect the CV vibrations, causing the APC to limit turbo boost. It will be interesting to see if this changes after CV joint replacement.
