History:
March: a/c no work. Charged a/c. a/c work.
April-May: a/c no work. Replace condenser, charge. a/c work. (actually took over a month, shop ordered wrong part twice, I eventually ordered it myself and installed)
June: a/c not working at all anymore. Decide to try DIY recharge with R12A can. System then produces cold air, but doesn't seem as cold as before. Decide to wait to see if it holds the charge.
Yesterday: Checked for leak using UV light. Only see some dye inside the high and low valves. I decide to buy one more can of R12A, and buy a cheap fill gauge at the same time (looks like a tire pressure gauge). I use the gauge, and it sprays refrigerant and dye all over the place. The valve seemed to get stuck, so I figure I lost a lot before I managed to get it to close again. I then empty half a can of R12A into the system, and buy a better gauge. At this point, there is cold air, but even less than before. I figure the charge is low. The gauge however indicates 37PSI on the low side (according to the gauge, that is charged.) I manage to put some more R12A in, get the pressure up to 45PSI. Still, air is at best cool, not cold.
At this point, I am stumped. It seems to be fully charged, yet the cooling capacity is half what it used to be. Any thoughts?
