I put in a ford solenoid 3 years ago and Posted by DickT [Email] (#1628) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DickT) on Thu, 14 Jul 2005 09:50:15 In Reply to: Re: If the yellow wire at the starter is hot.., BrianZ, Thu, 14 Jul 2005 08:07:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
didn't have any trouble until the hot weather this summer. I've gotten just a click about ten or so times on really hot days (always in awkward parking places, not in my driveway). Usually it catches if I keep trying, but twice I used a length of wire to touch the output side of the ford solenoid directly to the battery. That worked once but the other time it didn't and I had to push to get the car rolling, then jump in and pop the clutch. I've checked lots of stuff, grounds, connections, etc and put in a new battery.
I had a similar problem on a toyota and opened up the starter and made a new lug for the battery connection out of a piece of copper pipe. No problems after that. Doubt that's the problem here, though.
