I have '95 CSE and Aero, and the Aero prefers to shift at higher RPMs. Don't think it will run easily at 40mph in 5th. The CSE is comfy there. On the other hand, RPM at 80mph is about the same, so perhaps it is compression.
Gas mileage hwy on my 99,900, '87 9000, and these two is almost always over 30mpg, ranging pretty much in the 30-34mpg range. The 900 gave me a run from OH to NC at an AVE speed of 80mph and delivered 37mpg. It was always good mpg, but this was peculiar. First and last time I ran a trip that hard.
All are/were std trans.
City mileage varies greatly, with the Aero giving the worst at 22-26. Of course my wife is driving that, and probably racing the BMWs....
