You can do it, but Ari's right, it does suck. For the first little bit anyways.

I just bought a '90 9000T, and I'm still not entirely sure what the story is yet but the turbo is disabled. I saw a CarFax record from three years ago that said the beast failed my province's strict emissions regs, so I'm thinking some DIY'er in his infinite lack of wisdom just disabled the turbo somehow. I haven't taken the time to look at it yet (just got it last weekend).

The engine rolls well, but the time off the line is not going to blow anyone's door's off. I find that once you get the 3100 lbs of galvanized steel going, however, the non-turbo engine actually runs fairly well, and at better milage than if the turbo were engaged. Performance reminiscent of my old '95 Escort, for what it's worth.

It's your call. Don't expect a 'Vette, but don't expect a '88 Firefly either.
