Don't know if it applies to the DI, but there are power regulated solid state devices that will draw more current when the supply voltage drops, in order to maintain a constant power. With simple resistive devices, then current does drop with lower voltage, but I wouldn't be surprised if the DI was designed to maintain a certain level of spark energy with varying supply voltage.
