The Aero is a great car. I have a 1995 9000 Aero and a 2002 9-5 Aero both black 5 speeds and by far I love the 9000 the best. Mine is aproaching 160k and truly haven't had many problems with it. It amazes me that the car still feels like a new car.
My recomendation is and it may sound crazy find one with higher mileage for two reasons. First they will be a lot cheaper and secondly, I find that if you find one in great shape and have the service records that they will more likely to have had some componets replaced, such as the DI cassette, water pump, heater core, blower motor, clutch, maybe trans etc. Whenever I see one for sale and it has 60-100K it truly scares me, because I know that is the mileage when things begin to fail. I stress cheaper means $3500 or less they are out there, especially if you are in the Northeast and keep some of the money in reserve in case you will have to replace a componet or two.
I think that owning an Aero at your age is a good experience. It will make you a better driver in the long run because it is a very forgiving car and you will feel more in control than most Japanese and American cars. Most Japanese models are reliable but boring at the same time and American cars, well I think they make excellent rentals when new.
Now detractors will say he is young and needs to focus on college, etc and the 9000 isn't the wisest choice and supporters will say that the 9000 is a safe, roomy, fuel efficient, fun to drive, etc. Both make good points. I suggest you make a list of other potential cars that you would buy and do your research on them also and make the decision that suits you best.
