I would agree. It was much cheaper to replace the whole thing, and I was shocked how simple it was. I pretty much followed the method here:

You simply remove the large nut holding the axle on, remove the tie-rod end and then the two bolts holding the spindle to the strut, flop the spindle away, and the whole axle comes out.
When you're flying along at high speed, then you start to remember that's all that is holding the entire front end together.
