Start by checking spark, then fuel pressure Posted by henry helfman [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Is your tach bouncing when it cranks?, andyandyandy, Tue, 6 Sep 2005 22:59:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It's easy to do. Get a 5th spark plug wire and a 5th spark plug (i stole one from an old set of chevy wires) put the plug in the boot and ziptie the metal housing of the plug securely around the negative terminal of the battery, Crank the engine. you'll know right away if you have spark or not. (you'll be able to see it while cranking between the cowl and the hood) I agree with andy about getting a junkyard distributor, though I did that once and it went bad in about 2 weeks. Ended up reusing my original, after I replaced the hall sensor. I'd venture to guess that if you dont have spark and your plugs, cap, rotor and wires are fairly fresh, its either the module or hall sensor.
if you have spark, it's most likely your fuel pump or circuit. also easy to test. crack the top banjo bolt loose (but leave it on mostly!) of the fuel filter and crank it for a second. If gas sprays everywhere, you have fuel ate least getting to the rail.
i really doubt its the knock sensor not making it start.
