John,
I'm embarrassed to say that I don't remember! I "traded" that car for my '93 Aero a few months later, and it's all a blur. I certainly don't remember fixing it, and don't have any receipts for parts around that time - it may have gone away on its own (perhaps something got wet in the car wash? Who knows)
Back to your problem. My experience with fuel pump failure on 9000 was that the car wouldn't start, no advanced warning. Tapped the fuel tank with the lug wrench and it started up again - enough to get me home.
When the car loses power, do you feel a change in resistance in the gas pedal? If so, something's up with the TCS system. The first thing to swap out is the TCS safety valve - I've had those crap out more than once.
Good luck!
-Franz
