1.5 - 2 years ago, I started to notice a whining noise in my trans on my 92 9000s, in all gears, that would go away when I pressed in clutch, or during those moments going over a rise on the highway, or at brief periods of slow down, where there wasn't any load on the trans...
i had a saab mech listen to it and he said there's something wrong, couldn't tell what, but didn't think it was worth fixing the car (when my slave was going also).
i thought about putting in a used trans when i replaced slave, but didn't, and i've put at least 6 or 7 thousand miles of stop and go city driving since then almost a year ago.
no issues, works great.
so, i've probably put 15 K miles since i noticed noise, hasn't gotten worse, in fact yesterday i was wondering if had gotten quieter, but maybe i'm used to it, it used to be pretty annoying and made me feel like the car was on it's last legs
i recall posting about it, and other people wrote in ,some who had driven with same issue for years
my recommendation, based on my research at the time, was that it seemed best to just drive the car, if one didn't mind the noise, until trans actually failed, then replace with used ($300 plus 6 - 8 hours labor), rather than pay someone to rebuild it, when parts are so expensive.
