aaron's advice is not from himself but from an alter ego ! I dread to think how many Bill Davieses there are out there. Mind you, here used to be someone with a billdavies.com (I have billdavies.co.uk) but I see it's now up for grabs, which I might do now, as a matter of fact.
But I agree with you - up to a point. Sometimes you have to call a halt, sometimes it makes sense to carry on and it depends on the perceived value of the car (perceived from all angles, like past investment, basic condition, sentiment or whatever). I gave up on Sven, my own 1990 9000S, when the engine caught fire and the insurance company gave me twice as much as it was worth, because they believed the price guides. As a rule of thumb, maybe if the cost of the repair is greater than the cost of a year's use, you (or one of the aarons) should pass?
