Saab tire alignment?

Hello all. My mom and I own a '95 Saab 9000 Turbo, which we love. It's our second Saab 9000 (the first was an '89 and finally died last year when the transmission went at 280K miles...a good run by any standards). Today we got a flat tire and had two new tires put on the front end. The man at the tire shop asked if we wanted the tires aligned as well, saying it was "highly reccomended". My mom said that my dad told her Saabs don't need to be aligned, because they are permanantly (?) aligned at the factory when they're manufactured. This sounds weird to me, since I'd think that *all* cars are aligned at the factory, and usually cars can be knocked out of alignment from normal wear and tear, and *usually* you'd want to get your car realigned when you get new tires. Trouble is, we can't ask my dad what the heck he was talking about because he sadly passed away 2 weeks ago.
SO, to make a long story short, should we shell out the fifty bucks to get our car aligned like any normal car, or is there something special about Saabs that makes it unnecessary?
Thanks in advance,
Alex
