Sounds like you have something shorting out or drawing excessive current- Must be a hefty draw; can't imagine something able to overpower a functional alternator without blowing a fuse or fusible link though-
I assume it's getting switched on through the ignition, or your battery would be dead by now-
If you can't find it with your nose, maybe you can try measuring the current drawn from the battery with the ignition on but not running, so the alternator is out of the loop. Problem is making the measurement if you don't have a meter to make a high current reading; most run of the mill DMM's will only go to 20A. Possibly connect a headlamp in series to see how bright it gets, just to get an idea. If it comes on full brightness, it's an indication something's shorted. Doesn't sound like it's one of the fused components, but you could try selectively removing some of the fuses to see if it changes (watch out for the fuse that might trip the SRS warning light though)
Even if you determine something is causing excessive current draw, it'll be tricky to isolate it if everything is still working. That might not be the case for long though, if you're smelling burnt electronics, unfortunately.
