After digging through past posts and talking to knowledgeable repairers, I tore my TB apart and found that an internal wire was worn through and likely shorting out on the housing. It seemed to be pinched on original assembly.
Heed the advise of David about thoroughly investigating other possible causes. I would get a Tech II checkout first, then you will at least know what areas to investigate. My Tech II readout gave a code that indicated either a bad TB or vacuum leak. I replaced all of the vacuum hoses and the intermittant problem became permanent. There are also a number of electrical connectors that may have a bad contact which would throw you into LHM. I'd check all connectors and hoses before going further.
There is a 'rebuilder' in the Parts Classified of this board. If I recall, he ships you a repaired TB for around $300, and there is a $100 core charge. You may also be able to find a used one for that or less, and if it works, should be fine. Swedecar recommends the newer version which has gold contacts on the TB as more trouble free.
Do a search under my name, or TB, and you should be able to find my description of the repair. A note of warning, the rebuilder will not accept a TB which has been worked on, so if you are not able to get it working, you're out $100. However, I'm told these systems are pretty robust, and you should have a good chance at successful repair.
