oil light

While I was away on business, my son Tim told me the 94 cde had the oil light on. It died and was towed home.
This is the car I converted to 5 speed almost a year ago. While doing the conversion I found the valve train had a lot of gunk so I started treating it with Auto-Rx after the conversion. It is going through the rinse cycle after the first treatment when the symptom occurs.
Coming back home last Monday, I didn't have time to look at it until yesterday. It was raining all week anyway in NJ on top of the already short daylight. After charging up the battery yesterday, I found I can start the car up but the oil light is on even through there is oil in the engine. I changed the oil. The light is still on. If I drive around the block, it would die. But I can start it up and drive home.
Why is the oil light on?
