What's up with that?
I replaced all engine and tranny mounts with oem parts (well, good aftermarket stuff like ScanTech for some and Saab for others) and it seems they are worthless now with only 25K miles on them.
I don't know if it's all of them, some of them, or one of them, but I've got awful vibes going on during idle (forget it when the a/c is on), along with a low growling sound I had first thought to be my timing chain but now think is attributed to this engine mount issue.
I can see that the top vertical rubber bushing is splitting/cracking to the point that the original one was at when I replaced it (with 68K miles on it). The horizontal one seems okay (though I've got cut-up heater hoses in the gaps on that one since the rubber material is poor quality/very mushy purchased from a site sponsor that I hope has since changed its supplier). I haven't checked the lower hydraulic ones yet (quick, what's the best way to check them?), and the tranny one looks fine (I saw that one while fixing something else the other day).
Could this be caused by the extra torque from my Stage 3 set-up? If so, would doing the modification to the lower mounts as described on the Townsend site help out?
I do not like the thought of using poly (car is an auto), but if this continues, I may have to.
