I was referring to measuring transistor resistance, Posted by Bill Homer [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: BPC's all measure equal amount from 2.5 to 2.9 ohms, RayV, Wed, 2 Nov 2005 11:51:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
not the measurment across the BPC, which I figured that you had already done. BobS wrote: "The ECU boost valve drivers can be checked with the ignition key off. Check the resistance from ground to the outside contacts, it should be > 1 Meg ohm, anything less is suspect."
In very basic terms, a transistor can be thought of as an electrically operated "current faucet" - more voltage on the "handle" allows more current to pass through the faucet. It has been a long time since I have played with transistors, but I believe that what BobS is measuring is the resistance THROUGH the transistor when it is OFF (emitter to collector?). I imagine that this can be done by connecting an ohmmeter on each of the outer two wires on the cable that connects the ECU to the BPC - NOTE: any caveat that you want to, I have never done this and will not be responsible for any damage it causes (although I can't imagine how it could).
Perhaps someone else can chime in here, and/or if someone tells me which pins on the 1994 ECU are involved, I can measure my dead ECU for confirmation that resistance is altered.
