Clutch woes - serious problem??? Posted by vtsnaab [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Hi Folks.
Recently the action in my clutch pedal/m. cyl decreased significantly,
and developed this odd sort of stopping point about 1/2 way back up.
Knowing this car had a clutch job done, I spoke with my favorite indy
and he agreed it sounded like the clutch master was on it's way out...
I got one right away from EEuroparts, and he installed/bled it and I
drove home with a much improved clutch action - only temporarily.
Here it is only a week or 2 later, and today I notice a decrease in
the action again, with that same troubling pause, or stopping point
which just reappeared as well.
Got down and looked at the pedal mechanism and noticed the pedal arm
was not making a full stroke even without the 'pause', and it was at
a point about 1/2" short of the rightful top, so I gave it a wee tug,
it made a clicking sound, and came the rest of the way.
Upon examination I notice a few things here:
There is excessive play in the pin/bushing that connects the pedal
to the master and this translates to most of an inch of extra free
play in the total stroke.
There is a funky, oddly shaped swiveling spring gadget below and
beneath the pedal that appears to be the return spring mechanism,
and is not really doing it's job.
The total play from absolute top (where the pedal arm is making
the CC switch depress) to start of action is like 3" or more !
The conclusion:
Thinking I have found a bad return spring mechanism and nothing
more, I went inside for about 1 1/2 hours, and then needed to
go to another office I work in - and found it had only about
1/2" of action now, and with some hard pushing I could get it
into 1st, but I am practically power shifting now !!!
Please, has anyone had these things happen, or similar - and
what do I do to get my clutch action back ??
I don't want to have it towed all over the place if I can help
it....
Thanks for any help.
