Hi David, and thanks for the info.
The master cyl. is still in place, repairs have been
done, and it is working again - and we'll see how it
fares over the next few days...
Here's the best description I can give of what it was:
A combination of things all working together to produce
the bad effect.
The clutch pedal was worn out at the bushing for the pin
connecting it to the master cyl, producing excessive free
play.
The CC switch, which is apparently the only thing acting
as a stop at the top of the stroke was bent quite far out
of it's proper position, allowing the stroke to be much
longer than it should be, and also preventing the CC from
engaging as a side effect.
The excessive upward stroke was allowing the piston to be
pulled too far upward; the looseness was causing a 'pause'
1/2 way through, and all this together helped the 1st time
it was bled to be less than 100% free of air.
So - with the skills, tools and willing work of Christen
Szeg, I drove a car home that has great clutch action, a
new o-ring at the top of the fuel tank (hence no more fuel
seepage when the tank is full...) AND as a bonus - the CC
worked perfectly on the interstate - a real pleasure !!
Many thanks to all who replied, and especially to the good
indy who has been a fantastic help through all this.
(Hopefully there will be nothing to add anytime soon....)
