aftermarket radios use a "cage" (cage being a sleave that fits around the radio to hold it into the car) setup that fits into the dash, if the faceplate removes take that off first, if not, no biggie. from there (depending on how well it was done) thell be a plastic insert that fits around the faceplate, that should pry right off with a flatblade, its not a saab part, its aftermarket so no worrys if you break it. once this far there should be two radio removel tools (aftermarket radios use flat pieces of metal, there usally about 4 inchs long, about 3/4 wide with a 90 degree bend.) if the car didnt come with those 2 putty knifes work ok. put each putty knife on the horizontal edges of the radio, ibetwain the radio and the car, they putty knifes should slide a solid 2-4 inchs in, the actual tools will almost "click" in. this will release the radio from the cage. then pull it out being carefull with the wires. if you have the tools then you can pull those and get it out, if your using the putty knifes, leave them in the gaps betwain the radio and the cage and pull the actual radio. unplug the wires from the back of the radio, if the wires dont unplug (alot of cheap radios dont) cut the wires where they were conected. (or anywhere, just leave proper space in the wires for the new radio. From there the cage has tabs that can be bent to hook onto the car, some or all of them were bent around to keep the radio in place once all the bent tabs are now not obstructing the cage removal, slide teh cage out.
if you really get stuck the panals around the center colum near the footwells pop out, and you can get you hand back there to move things around although usally simply shaking things wont help it can be good to relise the cage with your fingers or a flatblade(if you have small hands) . when wireing in the new radio i would recoment looking at the factory saab audio manual, in the back it give you a wiring diagram this makes wires alot easyer to match, and saves alot of time. if the rear speakers dont work its probably because the factory audio amp under the rear seat wasnt properly overrided, or intagrated (front speakers have no amp) after installing radios on many saabs ive found this to be the most commen (but not the only) way it was done. certanly peaple can be creative and depending one who did the radio it could be done differntly.
hope all this helps,
mike d
