You bet narrower tires go better in the snow AND ice. Look at the difference in width between cross country skis and downhill. Maybe not a good comparison, but I think if you really look at it, what makes a tire skid on snow and especially ice is a very thin layer of liquid H2O that melts as the tire goes over the snow/ice. Less width of the slippery patch, better traction. Also driving in wet, heavy slush, the thinner tire will not ride up as much on the stuff. I'm into my third winter on a set of "SnoTracker" brand snos $48 at Sam's club. I'll take on any 4WD SUV that has all seasons, any day. (95 CSE 5 speed)
