Silicone spray Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Tue, 22 Nov 2005 19:01:58 In Reply to: Re: Right Bill here, Jim, Tue, 22 Nov 2005 17:41:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Well, as dboone suggested, I also sprayed anything that I could find with silicone spray and it did quiet down the squeeks substantially - but I have to wonder how long this will last, perhaps this will become a regular maintenance item. Note that there are a few other things that might be contributing to the squeeking, as I did install new rubber antisway bar bushings and links in the front about a year ago, but I still think that the control arm bushings are the source of the noise.
Apparently, not all polyurethane is the same: I know of at least one manufacturer, Energy Suspension Systems, who claims to put graphite in their black-colored poly bits which is touted as the solution to this very problem. Unfortunately, I could not convince them to make up a part to fit the SAAB 9000 - I did try to work with them, not enough volume I guess. The parts that I have seen from Abbott, Superflex and Powerflex are variations on red and purple, not black, so I wonder if they also have the same issues as the bits from eEuroparts (which are shiny black, don't look like dull black parts that I have gotten from Energy Suspension Systems).
