If you have a '97 as a model and really want Cruise Control, there should be little to stop you. The only potential hazard that I can think of is a runaway throttle - so you will probably not find any professional help on this.
What's kind of suprising with this is the weakness of the electronics. It is somewhat of a "given" that electronics should be inherently more reliable than mechanical controls, with all of the rubber hoses and diaphragms that can rot, linkages and switches that can go out of adjustment, etc. Inside the Hella CC control box is the usual assortment of electronic ICs, discreet parts and one miniature relay - normal electronic control parts, should last forever. But I've already had three defective units. OK, I will admit that the newest of these is already twelve years old, but still........
