Replacing a heater core

Was attemting to replace the heater core on my 97 9k cse but found myself stopped by the control rod and evaporator housing. Couldn't get the circlip off so i thought that if i got the evap. housing out of the way that i would have some more room for that part of the job. Only i couldn't get the evap housing to move at all. Every write up i have come across has said there are three torx screws but i could only find two. In the end the car won and i've had to put it all back together due to lack of sufficient lighting.......This was very frustrating as the whole time i didn't lose any screws at all.....only thing that i lost was the torx bit once it was all back together which took over an hour to find since i found itself a nook against the axel housing and the block. Reacing for it after 20 minutes of looking with a mag light gave me more injuries than anything in the aquarium......... Any help would be great.
