Don't know whether the angle/orientation is changing from year to year but mine is as shown below.
On the 82 degree Vernet/Calorstat (below) and 89 degree genuine SAAB, the vent hole is clearly visible. On the 82 degree Whaler that I received, the vent hole is not in the same place. I thought it was missing, but it turned out to be closer to the center, somewhat hidden. I don't know whether the Whaler design affects it's bleeding ability.
I wonder what that black slime is coating the walls of the chamber where the thermostat plugs in. I assume this is normal and everyone else's looks like this also.
