It is not a hard job really, as long as you have the right tools. Along with the usual assortment of wrenches you will need a 32 mm socket for the axle nut (I am 99.9% sure of the size)and a breaker bar. You will also need a gear puller to get the tripod bearing off the axle. A torque wrench that can go to 207 ft/lbs. is needed too. I would not buy a replacement axle myself, there are a lot of horror stories on her about replacement axles on this board. Plus I believe it is about the same money as i don't think the replacement axles come with the companion flange, which costs usually around 100 bucks. I am not sure how the inner flange is held in, but it is probably not too tough to get it out. The hardest part I had when I replaced my outer joint (via the remove the axle method) was crimping the boot back on the inner driver. The Haynes manual is faily helpful for these repairs, as well as townsendimports.com techincal documents. You will save yourself a bunch of money, as the part prices you listed were on the high side. Check the site sponsers for prices, but maybe stay away from the Scantech parts. I think Lobro is the OE manufacturer for these parts. Good luck.
