You do know that the positive terminal of the battery is wired DIRECTLY to the alternator, with a big fat wire capable of delivering more than enough amps to really hurt you?

About the VR... if you have never had the alternator out on the bench where you can see it, then its hard to imagine how the VR fits "just so." You have to simultaneously insert the VR into the housing, press it so that brushes are pressed into the VR itself, and line up the VR screw holes, and insert the screws all while the VR brush springs are trying to push everything apart. And if youre lucky, you wont drop one of the VR screws down into the engine compartment.

My advice is to hold the VR in one hand, and ONE screw in the other. Use you most adroit hand to position the VR, and use the other hand to insert the screw and slide the VR around until you feel the screw contact the screwhole. Then tighten the VR down tight, but loose enough that you can rotate it to position the second screw into the hole. The key is to get that first screw in.

I hope you didnt buy anything other than a Bosch regulator, cause the generics Ive tried die within 5000 miles. And I drive gently.
