...but I'm hoping that perhaps the smoking and teeny flame (I mean teeny) was the burning of the portion of the carbon brush that chipped off the VR as I was trying to install it.

Guess we'll know if and when I get that new VR in there what sort of additional damage there might be.

Just wanted to be sure I'm not about to ignite my car on fire or something if I tried to make a go of it with the alternator in its current (not to play on words) state.
