Accelerator pedal very firm and didn't engage rev until about 1/2-3/4 pressure.
All these symptoms occured this afternoon on my 1995 Aero with 149,XXX mi on it. I was driving along and suddenly the engine felt like it cut out and the car nosed down. At first I thouhgt i ran out of gas. I pulled over and the car was idling very rough at about 500rpms. I also noticed that the TSC OFF light was on.
I popped the hood and saw what looked like to be more fluid than normal around the area that I have had a slow head gasket leak from some time (right front corner of head). But this wet fluid didn't seem to be coming from any place in particular and had no indication of its exact source.
I was able to drive the car but due to the rough idle and the accelerator needing to be pressed really far down to engage it was a chore. During the drive I also noticed that the brake pedal was very firm. Not like normal. Just a light press and it really stopped the car.
I parked it around Noon and then used my other car for the day. Came home tonight at around 9:30 and just for a test i started it. No rough idle, nor TCS OFF light. So I drove it around the block. No issues at all. (PUZZLED)
One thing i did look at this evening was the oil dipstick. Oil looked murly, like dirty brown. I didn't see any water bubbles on the dipstick, nor did i see anything in the coolant resevoir.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
thx in advance.
Neil
