I did a test not long ago with a CKP sensor from a 9-5 V6.
Placed the sensor in a vice and hooked my VOM to pin 1-2 and slowly heated up the part of sensor body that is inside the engine using a propane torch.
It was quite interesting how the resistance kept going up and up with heat to finally make the sensor go open circuit.
When the heat was removed and sensor slowly cooling down, the resistance reading came back (closed circuit). First in the Mega Ohm range and then in the Kilo range and when completly cool, the reading was back at 860 (which is the nominell value of that V6 sensor).
I could do this test over and over again with same results.
That's how weird those sensors act up when reaching the end of its lifespan.
