If you can start the car and listen to it at idle, see if its consistent and doesn't change. If it doesn't change at all then give it a little gas and listen to see if it changes. If the knock stays on the same pattern but increases with engine speed then its most likely a rod bearing. Been down that road and its not pretty, mine went while i was going 55 on the way home from running errands, not a good thing to hear. The other way to see if its a rod bearing is to check the oil. If a rod bearing has gone little pieces of the bearing will show up in the oil. Thats how we pinpointed it comletely in my car.
