With the 82 degree thermostat, I don't find my temp guage gets above half often. 1/4 is definitely normal for highway cruising.
Torque is pathetic at low revs. I find things absolutely useless below 2000rpm, then 2500 there's a surge, then 3000 it's like a big switch is thrown and I get ALL THE POWER IN THE WORLD ALL IN ONE BIG LUMP until 5000, then it's pretty slow to 5500, then pathetic to 6000rpm.
3000 to 5000rpm is the place to be for me.
This means I'm often double-declutching to shift into 1st, which is extremely painful on the gearbox until you get used to it.
My drivetrain doesn't feel particularly tight. Then again, I don't have anywhere near as fresh parts as you. It's always felt loose to me. My 900 was the same. I find the first few mm of throttle travel to be really abrupt, and this is with an electronic throttle! Actually, I suspect the clutch as the culprit for that particular symptom, seeing as it has never been changed. But mostly I've written the rubbery feelings off as the nature of the beast with Saabs. Perhaps some day I'll change all the rubbery bits to the most brutally hard materical money can buy, however I've always worried that the extra vibration will rattle things to pieces more quickly.
